Project: SEO Tools and Consultancy

A website for an SEO consultancy that included independant tools that customers could use to check the SEO quality of their own websites.

Challenge
The tools must perform their duties using Google as the reference. It was no use saying that the page structure was OK according to a W3C if it didn’t match what Google expected. Therefore a lot of experimentation and research was needed to match with Google at that point in time.
Secondly, as more and more websites were being rendered from JavaScript, Google was quickly catching up and crawling websites by rendering their JavaScript live while crawling them. This required our tools to have the same behaviour. Hence we used Pupeteer to automate Google Chrome and ran our tools in Google Chrome to get as close to emulating Google search as we could.
